"OH YYYEEEEAAAAHHH!!!"
TOUR UPDATES!
Well, we all got on our plane around 3:00. There ride was
fun and we were all pumped to hit BOSTON. Landing..... went
well. Steve and Sean got caught in customs, but they didn't
find what they should have...... shhhhhh. Some of the bands
main squeezes showed to bring them home and the rest of
us walked. (no I'm kidding we got rides) The two days off
were nice. I got to check out my phone bills, and worry
about $$$ that a friend needs to get to me. But all that
crap was gone when I got to see Creek Johnson of the band
DREXEL we hung out and I watched him, Pearson and Jeff from
DREXEL rehearse. Their writing their new album. So, that
night was Jason's Birthday. We went to our local hang out,
"OUR HOUSE" and had some BRUBAKERS and cheese fries. So
many friends came out.... it was the best. The next day
Boston was so nice, I love walking around a place called
home. I checked out Fork In Hand stuff Timmy, Steph, and
Yosef had been keeping the fort down. They rocked it, Fork
In Hand is as strong as ever. Then I had to organize all
the new merch boxes and pack it up. The two days flew bye
and before I knew it we were packing the trailer and heading
to Chicago. Thus starts the:
************OH YAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!! U.S. TOUR*****************
MU330 - The Lawrence Arms - Big D and The Kids Table
March 30th, Chicago, IL, home of Fist Grade Crush
was our first stop. I love Chicago, the people here are
nuts. The show was the best. And even though we couldn't
have started the show in BOSTON like we had planned (but
got screwed out of it) we where amped to start in Chicago.
All the bands we great. First Grade Crush came down and
that was just perfect. I climbed the Fire Side Bowl chains
to put a sticker up, so check it out if your in the area.
(I was proud of its height) That night we went to Eric's
from F.G.C.'s. It's always fun there. We hung out with so
people we hadn't seen in time time time. Well, I gotta go
cause it's the next day and the van is leaving right NOW!
Dave
So like I believe I have said, our lab top is BROKEN. That
is the reason we have not done tour updates in a while.
So right now I'm in MU330's RV heading to Atlanta from North
Carolina. But..... lets us go back.
March 31st We woke up at Eric's (First Grade Crush)
house and headed to Valparaiso IN, to play at the Legion
Hall. However, when we got there they said there was no
show here, that it had been moved. So, we had to sit around
a parking lot ready for the Lawrence Arm's or MU's call.
We listened to War Of The Worlds, which I recommend everyone
to go on the Internet and get. The new venue was cool, it
was exactly the place you pictured the government hiding
ALIENS. The show was cool we were on 3rd of 5. At the merch
booth I noticed MU330 has a rack of weird cloths. It consists
of dresses, slips, and well anything you can imagine, then
they print MU330 on'em.
OK, so MU330 is the funniest bunch of guy's. You have Dan
(Vocals) he IS the nicest person ever to walk this earth.
Rob (trombone 1) the weirdest person to walk this earth.
Gerry (trombone) if you don't know this guy or have heard
of him start asking. He's about 6 foot 100 and talks like
a WWF wrestling champ. He busts a chain saws out on stage
and well he fixed our CB radio so the blue ribbon goes to
Gerry. Ted and Chris (drums and bass) are bad ass and fun
as hell.
The Lawrence Arms are also so friendly. They're a three
piece that plays hmmmm let me put it like this, if you like
good music then you'll love The Lawrence Arms. Oh, and if
you like bad music best to start changing your ways and
pick up they're record. It's indie - punk - rock or whatever
you want to make of it, no matter what it's good. Members:
Brendan (Vocals) - Chris (guitar) - Ted (Drums) all bad
ass guys. Now, know your names cause I'll be calling 'em
off.
April 1st Detroit MI, Shelter Last time we player
hear was with Skavoovie, it's a cool club in a tough area.
This show was cool, I was able to really watch MU's show.
THEY PUT ON THE BEST SHOW EVVVVVVVEEEERRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Drop what you're doing and see'um. We sold a lot of back
patches, which is great cause I want so bad to bring back
the - heavy metal - jean jacket - band - back patches. After
the show the Lawrence Arms and us went to a bar where a
friend of theirs worked. I was psyched to hang out with
the ARM's and get to know each other. I talked to Brendan
about the Arm's and about his old group he used to sing
in Slapstick. Now, if you don't know who they are shame
on you, go to the Asian Man website and do some needed homework.
I believe that the only reason bands like us and other punk
bands with horns (aka today's SKA) exist is because of SLAPSTICK.
Great - great group...... and a fun - fun night.... We crashed
at the bar tender's house. He had a puppy, we were in heaven.
April 2nd Toronto ONT Cathedral Finally Canada.
We have been trying and trying to play Canada. Every time
something goes wrong and it gets canceled. Well, we did
play once in a bar but it was weird so we try not to remember
it. Now John from STOMP records in Canada, I believe is
the only reason we're known there. So, THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH
JOHN.
At the Border we found Lawrence Arm's finishing up being
harasssssed. We where just beginning our 3 hour wait to
cross. Now, it's easier to cross into Austria or Slovenia
than it is to go to Canada. But, I always love the crossing
harassment, cause it's funny (if you're innocent that is).
So we were a bit late, but not too bad. I met some cool
fans at this show. We didn't exchange names, but if you're
reading and we were talking then it was ya'll. We went back
to a friend's house to stay. They had a rat and a gerbil,
ha ha ha ha weird but fun. Oh Steve slipped in the snow
that day and crashed. We (including him) laughed for so
long, cause he made that "Oh Oh Whoa" sound as he fell.
Oh, I opened a merch tub that day and took a piece out of
me right hand.
April 3rd Montreal QUE L'X THIS SHOW WAS NUTS -
I MEAN SO NUTS. ok-ok-ok here it is, the craziest shows
for us are in:
#1 BOSTON Massachusetts
#2 LONDON
#3 CHICAGO
and now #4 QUEBEC
There was about a Bazillion people at this show. They have
rafters around the stage so you can watch from above. Now
that was weird, I felt like I was in the Terrordome or a
cock fight.... It's funny as hell, when you get up on stage
a bit nervous (I'm always nervous but don't tell anyone)
and we say, "hey we're Big D and The Kids Table from BOSTON
Massachusetts" and everyone goes nuts. It's so - so weird.
So the show was explosive, mic sands everywhere, legs and
arms everywhere - crazy crazy crazy. Oh MAN a kid Broke
his arm while we played and had to get rushed out. HEY HEY
- EVERYONE ALWAYS HELP PEOPLE WHEN THEY GET HURT AT SHOWS
- TAKE CHARGE IN THE MAYHEM. AND LET US KNOW!!!!!!!!! He
was ok, Marc was able to talk to him. One big Crazy show.
April 4th Montreal QUE Laurent This show was funny,
it was like everyone from the show the night before who
wanted more. When I went out for food with Cutler, Gerry,
Ted, and Dan from MU, we heard about the incident with China.
Crazy...........
Scary $&*@ I feel is on the horizon, when our leaders
hold pride before lives.
Kick ass show we played a new song LAX that night. Lawrence
Arms LOVED it and wants us to play it every night now. Which
is fine with me cause I'm in love with that song, could
be my favorite one we've ever written.
April 6th Amherst, MA. The Sky Box Now here's a
mixed feeling show. Well, first we got to Massachusetts
the day before. The Arm's came to my house in GOOD OLD ALLSTON
MASS(AHHHHH HOME). We went to Jason and my favorite hang
out "OUR HOUSE" in Allston. It was so fun, all our buddies
came out. I was just pumped as hell to see Creek Johnson
from DREXEL, he's the best. I also saw Jeff and Pearson
from the group. Fun - fun night, I spent $$$ I didn't have.
OK so the show...................... well everything was
cool, we showed up and set up. The Arms were on stage first
and something happened and the crowed illed Brendan. I believe
the BIG were hurting the SMALL, and not caring. So, Brendan
had to say something and the message didn't get through.
They played well and the crowed dug'em but something was
in the air. So I thought that was a shame, but was so excited
to play in Massachusetts. When we got up it was so amazing,
I felt at home. I recognized so many people and a lot of
friends showed up.
*To all the people who have been going to shows for a long
time THANK YOU and know that we appreciate it so much and
think of you so much higher then you realize. And I'm sorry
when it gets crazy at shows and it's hard to hang.
So we start playing and it's the best. However, a bit in
the set I notice that the stage reaches the front rows knees
and they're being pushed over forward, in a PAINFUL way.
It is impossible to enjoy what's happening during a song
when people are getting hurt. So anyway I told the crowd
to move back and they didn't and I realize it's hard and
realize that even when you do move back it just goes back
right after the song starts. So I had to keep helping the
front row and push the 2nd and 3rd back when they wouldn't
do it themselves. It sucks so much when you see kids you
know in front row in PAIN and the back not caring. So I
was a bit illed, but ok. I had the group of people getting
hurt come on stage until it was ok and it worked out in
the end. And I know - I know, I think, also, that the front
row is a place where you have to know that you may get a
bit hurt and that by going there you gotta be ready and
move back if it gets to rough. However, other people don't
think that way so we have to help'em and your help is appreciated.
So, then MU330 went up and a bit in the set an ASSHOLE
DRUNK was saying play WEEZER, which is so dumb.... so dumb.
He then did other -I'm an asshole stuff-, but it wasn't
until he jumped on stage and grabbed the mic from DAN and
pushed him that it was bad. Chris (Bass) threw the kids
off and the set continued.
I loved see everyone and playing home, It was too bad that
each band in the night had a bad incident go down.
BUUUUUUUT after the show all the bands got great pizza
and the night was AAAA OK.
This night the good old Big D house fed and housed EVERYONE.
One big old TROUBLE sleep over - HA HA HA HA
April 7th good old BOSTON MASSACHUSETTS - Bill's Bar
We had to wake up at about 1,000 in the morning, no no no
it was 1,001 in the morning for the BOSTON show. Now I was
so excited bout this show that I felt weird. My heart was
pumping all day, I was just all GO GO GO. We got to the
club and no one was there to let us in and doors were in
about a half hour. Oh and check this out the sound guy didn't
show so Steve (bass in big d) had to take over. THANK GOD
FOR STEVE. I got to walk around BOSTON with Ted a bit from
MU, that was cool to see all of home. There was a big line
for the show when we got back. I tried to get all friends
in, but it's hard sometimes. My folks were coming to this
one, ya know to see their 'lil boy. I LOVE PLAYING BOSTON
everyone, LOVE IT. This was 5 Bucks CD release party, and
MAN did they play well. It was so good to see them and watch
their set. So good -- so good and the new guitar player's
cool. MU330 had to go on next cause they had to jet to New
York after, we didn't play the New York cause it was too
far, and come on, we're HOME. Like I said MU put on the
best show ever so their set was well...... the best ever.
MOM and DAD came when the ARM'S were playing. My MOM told
me that Brendan didn't have to say that Big D Fucking rules,
he could have just said he likes us. I thought that was
funny. So it was about now that I was a bit FREAKED, well
more like excited and nervous. It was a good thing the sound
guy showed after Steve was done micing everything. (OH sorry
I forgot to mention -----STEVE GOT A NEW BASS, it's black)
The show was the dream I've had seen since I was 13. ALL
OF YOU KICK ASS. It was just so fun, and so good to be playing
with and for BOSTON. Like when we were playing and now,
I'm not sure if I'm getting through how great it was to
be there. Touring is the best, I love it. However, when
touring home is the van and everywhere else you're a guest.
Playing Boston was the feeling, "this is home" and it's
that feeling that we haven't had in a long time. So thanks,
it was the best.
p.s. That night was fun back at the house.
p.s.s. Good luck at boot camp Christian
April 8th Hartford Conn. The Webster Theater
*******Dave's Death Show********
Sean Flores is now with us on tour, thank GOD-o-GOD. Fun
show, the trilogy kids showed again. (last three show -
attended) So we're all having fun hanging out joking, in
the back. All the bands are buddies know, well except Chris
Bush no one really likes him (HA HA just kidd'en) There
is talk of having everyone in all the bands get MO-HAWKS...............trouble
huh. When everyone's together it's such a good time. All
our humor is the same, weird.
So, it's about the 3rd song in our set. The stage is about
6 feet tall and there's a barrier about 5 feet wide. During
"HEY" I think, I lunged forward. My left leg missed the
stage and just hit air. This sent me crashing off stage
in-between the stage and the crowd (into the barrier). First
my head hit the top of the barrier, then my left hand caught
on something and opened up, my left leg scrapped off the
sage also opening, and finally with all the force I crashed
hip first in the bottom edge of the barrier. Ok.......so
I have a lot of scars from shows and if you've been to a
lot of show you'll know that I've bled pretty well at some,
however I always get back up. This time was a bit different.
I did get back up, but I was real banged up so I made my
way back stage. I was wearing a T-shirt someone threw on
stage and got some good old blood on it. I went to a spot
back stage to sit. It did hurt a lot and I was bleeding
in a couple places, but I was fine. Gerry (MU Trombone)
from MU was great in keeping some people away after I had
to repeat, "I'm ok just give me a sec". Dan (Big D trumpet)
came back and I told him the same. So as I was waiting for
the pain to run its course I checked myself slowly for anything
serious, I mean, hey, I gotta get back to the boys. I could
have used some Band-Aids that were on their way but they
took 4 seconds too long. So, the next song was FATMAN and
I made it back up before the first break down. Silly little
entrance, "hey hey sorry about that fall, oh the blood don't
worry about it) HA HA. The guys were VERY confused, but
happy to see me back. Nothing like this ever really happened
to us before. Marc was sketched out when he saw my shirt
and I gave him a flash of my wrist between songs. The set
did hurt a bit, and a couple days later it still does, but
"I'll save my crying for when I'm dying"
April 9th : Washington DC, American University Ok
so COOL COOL COOL COOL.......now WARM WARM WARM!!!!!!!!!
We showed up at a College - College, ya know the kind you
see (or I guess I see) in movies. It's the American University
and a time warp for me. Paul and I sat in the court yard
type place for about an hour people watching, looking like
the two sketchiest kids ever. The show was in a cafe type
place, there weren't that many people there but it was cool.
We got some good food and Matt our host was real cool.
Then all 18 of us hit the dorms HA HA HA HA HA HA HA. 18
of the weirdest in the most "normal" environment, it was
great. No really though, nothing went down, some showered,
some E-mailed, and the rest of us hung at MU's RV till late.
April 10th : Carrborro NC, Cat's Cradle Breakfast
at American University and then the road. We have the T.V.-VCR
in the van now so on this ride we watched EPISODE 1, where
Jason and myself ripped and ripped and ripped on it. God
that movie's sad. Listen to the dialogue,
"BLAH BLAH BLAH"
"YES BLAH BLAH FORCE FORCE FORCE"
"BLAH FORCE"
"FORCE FORCE BLAH"
"POD?"
"POD POD POD"
Then the TV stopped working.............I then wrote some
lyrics and fell asleep. I woke up so cranky and stayed that
way till we ate. I had my," I just want to be alone" day.
Everyone gets one or two days like that on tour. Three people
from my high school came to the show so that rocked. The
turn out for this show was only about 30 people, maybe 25.
So, after we played the first song I introduced the band
and had everyone in the crowd introduce them selves. It
was great everyone knew each other that much more after
the introductions. The show was real fun after that.
All 18 of us stayed at a friends house that night. They
had the biggest dog I've ever seen. It was the size of a
small horse or a big deer. Oh and at one point Brendan jumped
on me and when the monster dog saw that it got on it's hind
legs and wrapped it's arms around Brendan's arms and tried
to have it doggy dog way.........just thought you'd like
to know.
April 11th : Atlanta GA, Cotton Club So like I said,
now I'm in MU330's RV catching up on the TOUR REPORTS. Gerry
hooked up our CB radio, so now all of us have'm. Today we'll
hook up our PA, so we can scream at everyone outside the
van. The RV is very nice and its air-conditioning.......
great. Inside it looks like hanging out at Grandma's. So
bye for know, tour's great, MU's great, and The Lawrence
Arms is well..........great. Dave
*Fork In Hand note: MindLikeWater the new release from
Fork In Hand is almost in so get ready, it's amazing. Oh,
and the dicks from DREXEL wanted me to remind everyone they're
new ep. WHATEVER
WHENEVER is out now on
www.forkinhand.com for only $6.00.
April 11th, Atlanta GA: LORD OF THE FLIES -
ON THE ROAD.......HELLLLLLLLLP!!!!!! WOW WOW WOW WOW- so
we show up at the club, do the regular stuff (set up merch
and equipment). However, right before the show started,
it happened. There had been talk of everyone on the
tour, MU330, The Lawrence Arms, and us Big D and The Kids
Table all getting mo-hawks. AND YES IT BEGAN. Brendan from
the Arms started it with Marc from Big D and Dan from MU.
Within an hour 12 out of 18 of us had mo-hawks. We
have all shapes and sizes, form Marc's afro hawk to Dan's
buzzzzz hawk. Now just to let you know Steve was the
first of course. So now things are really funny.
If you turn your head in any direction then you see at the
min. 3 hawks. There are more people in my everyday
view with hawks then without. So now that I have you
all going, "WHAT?". I'll move on. The show was cool,
and after we headed to New Orleans.
April 12th, New Orleans, LA: We blasted into New
Orleans after a BIG BIG drive. Van life is getting
more fun now. See, at first we are all excited to
be driving around, then about a week in the tour, van life
got a bit tired. You have to picture hours after hours
of keeping yourself busy which is tough. But then
once you realize that it's the van or nothing, that's when
Van life gets crazy. So we hit Burban St. and met up with
my best friend from high school Andrew Horan. Now
I love this kid, he's so funny and "OH" he got me into IRON
MAIDEN which brought you our cover song. So hats of
to Andrew. The show was small but cool. Man it's HOTTTTTTTT
there........... Playing a show is like going swimming.
The show was about the size of N.C. so like at that show
we had everyone introduce themselves. These shows
are cool when you're on the road if you're in the right
mind set. For example, you get to relax with
the songs and with the crowd. I find a lot more joking
happens, it's like playing a show in your T.V. room for
fun. But if you have too many in a row then
you get a bit bummed - follow? That night we hit the
town and just HAD A GREAT TIME. It was one of those
nights where you tell your friends how much they ROCK. That
morning we cruzzzzzed.
April 13th, Houston TX - Where Creek Johnson* is
from. * Creek Johnson is the loud mouth, cocky son
of a b*$%h from DREXEL This was a weird and great show.
It was weird cause there were two show happening at once.
Our tour was down stairs while the MIGHTY MIGHTY BOSSTONES
and 30 FOOT FALL show was up stairs. However, Dicky
from the BOSSTONES made it so the bands played one after
another.... I thought that was real cool. Our set
was fast - short - and hard. Dicky and Joe from the
Bostones watched and said cool things after. Dicky
even bought a shirt*....... *no no I know what
you're thinking: we told him he could have it for free but
he insisted, so everyone played great, I think it was the
Arms' best show so far. Our crowd downstairs was great
and all the kids were real cool. 30 Foot Fall rocked
the other show and the BOSSTONES just killed it.
Man the BOSSTONES were just REALLY good. Dicky said
"hey" to us on stage and wore our T-shirt he bought at the
encore, which was the song "they came to BOSTON".
FUN FUN night I liked seeing BOSTON shown twice on one show. That
night we stayed at Brian's house, he's from the band HARVARD
that played before us. Now he lives in a jungle compound.
From outside you can't see anything, but inside there is
the most amazing / weird house. Brian has 10 dogs
of every kind, 3 cats, pools of fish, turtles and turtles,
a duck, and a bunch of birds. We had a blast........Each
dog was so different. Poodles and Great Danes living
it up in chaos. Oh we also had to get the trailer fixed
cause it broke the other day. The suspension went
on our trailer and we were burning trailer and tire.
Buuuuut it's ok now. So now it's off to Austin Texas.......Take
care - Dave Vegas............ Vegas was great
I won $$80$$ and loved it. I just kept winning and
winning......until I started losing and that's when I stopped.
The show was advertised as all ages, but when everyone got
there is was 21+. Now, I have never seen a show like
this. After sound check and after merch was set up,
the bands decided Fu$#@ this let just play out side.
So all the bands played their set all acoustic. It
was crazy, all the song from all the band sounded great.
Everyone stayed and the hole thing was fun. The club
actually paid us too.We had put out a can for tips and got
$68.00 because the club paid us and we were in VEGAS
we desided to bet it all on black. When we got to
the table and put our $$$ down and chose our # the woman
said we neaded bigged bills. (see they were all ones) so
if we had played then we woulda won but nooooooOOooooo we
had to get bigger bills and YES we LOST. It was the
most exicting moment on tour. So finally, the tour
was great we had a lot of fun. I am so impressed with
everyone who is keeping the scene alive. A lot of bands
are breaking up and thinning out the shows so we, Fork In
Hand, and Asian Man will keep spreading the word and keeping
things moving if you will......and even if ya don't we will. So,
we're off to writtting. We'll be back very soon....... LOOK
out for the SELLOUTS and DREXEL coming your way this summer!
